Serbia on the road to EU standards

Serbia on the road to EU standards

The second seminar “Directive Specific Implementation Plans in the Water Sector” was held on the World Water Day. The seminar was organized as part of the project “Further Implementation of the Environmental Approximation Strategy” (EAS), funded by the European Union, in cooperation with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Association for Water Technology and Sanitary Engineering. On this occasion, the participants were acquainted with the previous work on the preparation of Specific Implementation Plans of the Four Directives in the field of water, which take place within the EAS project. In this regard, information on the next steps is given. During the discussion, the participants were given the opportunity to present their opinions and suggestions for future work.
The EAS project provides support to the line Ministry of Environmental Protection and it is aimed at assisting Serbia in further alignment with The Community acquis, through institutional strengthening and strategic planning under Chapter 27. Directive Specific Implementation Plans (DSIPs) are being prepared as part of the EAS project and aim to determine how each directive will go through the approximation process, as well as provide detailed information necessary for further negotiation steps.

Directive Specific Implementation Plans in the Water Sector are being prepared so that the planned measures are in line with the planned costs for achieving the set goals. Also, specific plans are the basis for further guidance for harmonizing the strategic and legal basis of the Republic of Serbia with the legal regulations of the European Union. European Union regulations in the water sector are extensive, demanding, complex and costly for implementation, but also necessary for the protection of the environment and water quality, as well as the preservation of the health of the citizens of Serbia.
