Ministry of Mining and Energy of the Republic of Serbia has started implementing the first project funded by the EU within the framework of the so-called decentralized management system, in which the projects are implemented within the institutions of the Republic of Serbia with the control of the EU Delegation in Serbia.
This is a technical assistance project – development of the Cadastre of mining waste, which is being implemented with the aim to help Serbia to harmonize its legislation with the EU acquis in the field of environment.
The total investment value of the project amounts to 2.1 million euros, out of which 90% is the EU financial assistance, while the remaining ten percent represents the financing of the Republic of Serbia.
Based on the tender procedure implemented for this project a German company Pleiades has been selected as a leader, and in cooperation with DMT, also from Germany.
The implementation of the project which will last for the next three years will include development of a risk assessment, characterization and classification of mining waste from about 200-250 abandoned mining waste landfills and from about 200 active mines with mining waste, as well as three case studies on three different types of mining waste .
